Should You Keep Your Psychology Today Profile?
If you’re thinking about scaling your practice, you may feel tempted to let your personal Psychology Today profile fade into the abyss (especially if you plan to stop seeing clients). But I’m here to tell you – Don’t do it!
Your Psychology Today profile is some seriously prime real estate. It’s likely already performing well on Google’s algorithm thanks to your reputation and consistent use. So instead of letting it sit idle, you can use it to:
- Attract new clients to your practice.
- Leverage your reputation.
- Transition inquiries to your team of therapists.
Here’s how to optimize your Psychology Today profile for growing your practice and attracting more clients (along with these tips I would also recommend using my Psychology Today profile template. Visit me on Instagram and DM me “Psychology Today” and I will share it with you!)
Step 1: Update Your Existing Profile
Here are some tips for updating your current Psychology Today profile so it’s optimized for scaling your practice.
Remove the “Not Accepting New Clients” Notice
If your profile says you’re not accepting new clients, the first step is removing that notice! While you may not be taking clients personally, your team still can. Potential clients may not reach out or do additional research on your clinic at all if they see this message, so make sure it’s gone.
Revamp Your Content
Your Psychology Today profile should now represent your clinic, so you should update the bio to highlight the services your team offers. For example:
- Couples therapy
- Family therapy
- EMDR
- Neurofeedback
Hot Tip: Include a note about how your team is supervised and trained by you! This reassures potential clients that your expertise extends to the entire practice.
Add a Video Introduction
I know you might want to shy away from this, but it’s an important part of your Psychology Today profile! And studies show that this significantly increases conversions. Use this video to:
- Introduce your clinic and services.
- Highlight the expertise of your team.
- Reassure clients that they’ll receive top-notch care!
Update Your Photos
Remove any photos of empty rooms or couches (This is important to remove from your website, too!). While these might seem calming, they can give the impression that your practice isn’t busy. Instead, include: Professional headshots of your wonderful team.
Step 2: Create a Second Profile for Your Group Practice
Use Your Clinic Name
Instead of your personal name, this second profile should be titled with the name of your clinic.
Use a Warm, Professional Photo
Try to avoid using your logo as the profile photo. People connect with faces, so use a professional photo of yourself to encourage clicks to your page!
Highlight Your Services
Step 3: Invest in Profiles For Your Therapists
If you’re serious about scaling, I recommend paying for individual Psychology Today profiles for each of your therapists. If you’ve been following me for long enough, you know that spending money on your business isn’t a loss.. It’s an investment! (Click here for my top money mindset shifts for growing your practice.) Here’s why this is important:
Increased Visibility: The more profiles you have, the higher chance that your group practice appears in searches.
Consistency: You can ensure every profile is up to date, professional and aligned with the brand of your practice.
Retention: Therapists appreciate this added perk, which sets your clinic apart from others and keeps great therapists with you!
While it may seem expensive, it’s worth the investment.. I promise!
Step 4: Train Your Admin Team
Delegating tasks is so important for growing your therapy practice and this is a perfect example of something your admin team can take on. To maximize the impact of your Psychology Today profiles, your admin team should be trained and ready to:
- Field inquiries: Train them to explain that clients will be working with your team rather than directly with you.
- Highlight the value: Emphasize how your team is supervised and/or trained by you!
- Book appointments quickly: Ensure a seamless process for converting inquiries into scheduled sessions.
Step 5: Track Your Metrics
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Your systems are everything! To maximize the impact of your consult calls, streamline your processes.
1. Offer Consults Within 48 Hours
As always, you need to know your numbers! Make sure you’re tracking the performance of your Psychology Today profiles. Have your admin team monitor:
- Number of inquiries per profile
- Conversion rates
- Client retention
This data will help you optimize your investment and identify which profiles are performing best. This can also help you make any tweaks if you’re not happy with the numbers you’re seeing!
